Whenever a book an autism gets posted I check the background of the author. Then I read the reviews of the book by people with autism. This one was helpful to me:
Since Asperger’s and ASD are often used interchangeably now, I mistakenly believed this was a book written for and about older adults with Asperger’s. The sample looked so promising so I purchased the e-book based on that, but I’ve found it disappointing so far. The author is really discussing people with the more classic form of autism rather than the very high-functioning form known as Asperger’s Syndrome. It’s full of advice on how to help ASD people manage their finances and other daily affairs, while people with Asperger’s can already do those things but struggle with other things like interpersonal interactions. Another quality I found annoying is that, like Tony Atwood’s book on Asperger’s, she talks about people with ASD in the third person instead of addressing us directly, as if she is writing not for us but for partners and family members. I find that off-putting.
